Fun Science wk 2

Our next experiment focused on our sense of sight. We discovered how our eyes reflect light to create pictures of the world and looked at different kinds of eyes in the animal kingdom. We learnt that many animals cannot see in colour at all but, luckily we can!
We used the "magic milk" experiment to explore colour mixing and made some beautiful patterns.
You can try this easily at home all you need is full fat milk, food colouring and liquid soap.

First we added a few drops of different coloured food colouring to our dishes of  milk and observed how the colours spread on the surface. The colours sometimes touched but didn't mix.
Next, we dipped cotton buds into the liquid soap and gently touched different areas of the coloured milk. The class were amazed by the way in which the soap repelled the milk, forcing the colours away from the cotton bud and into each other and causing them to mix.
Everyone was fascinated by this experiment and happily tested this colourful reaction over and over again!

Fun Science pt 1

We started off our science class by talking about what science is. We thought about how we explore the world around us using our different senses. We began the  first part of our five senses theme by looking at the sense of Touch. The class were asked to use only their hands to feel around in the paper bags and guess what was inside. They enjoyed touching and squeezing the objects and there were some fairly accurate guesses. We used words like "slippery" "hard" "soft" "smooth" "powdery" and "fluffy" to describe the textures. The items were :- sand, pebbles, feathers, flour, cooked spaghetti, glue and ice. Noodles was the easiest to recognise but no-one could work out what the bag of feathers were!

Caiou taking a sneaky peek at the flour!

After we had finished guessing the class suggested we add all the ingredients and mix them together, a sort of experiment in texture!

Chinese Songs and Writing

For the past few weeks, the main activities in ECA Mandarin Class are Traditional Chinese songs, Tang poems and Chinese characters writing. Based on these fun activities, children could have a preliminary understanding of the Chinese language and know how to write Chinese characters. Then lay a good foundation for future systematic study. The students are quite enjoying the class.
