Fine motor skills, also known as hand-eye coordination, is the ability to control the use of hands and fingers in sync with the eyes. This skill develops in stages beginning with reflex actions to more complex actions such as writing.
This week, we did an activity where the children used their fine motor skills to trace around shapes. This required them to hold the shape in place, move the pen around with one hand and adjust the hand holding the shape, accordingly. Some children used their imagination to combine different shapes to make houses, robots and birdhouses. Others traced the shapes and painted inside the line.
